This year’s Specsavers Redruth Local Hero Awards Celebrated in Style

Last Friday sponsors, councillors, award winners, and their families gathered at the Penventon Park Hotel to celebrate the winners of the 2023 Specsavers Redruth Local Hero Awards.

Thanks to our wonderful sponsors we were able to add two more categories to our programme and celebrate more well-deserving members of our community at this year’s ceremony. Eight awards in total were presented by their respective sponsors to the winners and representatives.

The evening began with a welcome message from Richard Woods from Rewind Radio and Town Mayor Cllr Matthew Brown before the Penventon team served us all with a delicious two course dinner. Once coffee had been served, it was time for the main event and we were lucky that Richard Woods and Laura Macdonald from Rewind Radio were on hand to compere the evening.

The winners of the Specsavers Redruth Local Hero Awards 2023 are:

Best Community Project sponsored by Thurstan Hoskin Solicitors – Food TroopsVolunteer of the Year Award sponsored by Keltek Brewery – Jan PolhillYoung Person of the Year sponsored by Camborne and Redruth District Lions – Eliza WittamoreSportsperson of the Year sponsored by Specsavers Redruth – Jago FordEnvironment and Climate Change Hero sponsored by The Inn For All Seasons – Ruth MajorGood Neighbour sponsored by Penventon Park Hotel – Sharen Thomas Best Green Business sponsored by Engine House Tickets – Cornish Health StoreBest New Local Business sponsored by Redruth & District Chamber of Commerce – The Grow BoxHonourable Mention – Hector The Station Cat

As soon as the Awards part of the evening was finished, the celebrations continued as Jamie Reed took his place behind the DJ booth and guests flocked to the dance floor.

Overall, the evening was a great success and we are already planning for next year. We would like to thank all the sponsors – Specsavers Redruth, The Penventon Park Hotel, Keltek Brewery, Redruth & Camborne Lions, Redruth & District Chamber of Commerce, Thurstan Hoskin Solicitors, Engine House Tickets, The Inn For All Seasons – and our generous supporters – Rewind Radio, and Lee Searle – without whom we wouldn’t have been able to organise such a great evening.

And congratulations again to all the winners!
