Bus Pass Trip 18

Taking the #1PieceOfRubbish campaign to Two Counties

Bus Pass Trip 18, accomplished over 9 days, incorporated 25 buses, 1 train and 2 trams through Lancashire & Cumbria, staying overnight in 6 Anchor/Hanover guest rooms (Burnley, Preston, Morecambe, Barrow-in-Furness, Whitehaven and Penrith), dining in 11 Wetherspoons, participating in 2 BBC Local Radio interviews and researching my family history in 3 Libraries and 2 Archives. Altogether I spent £5.80 on travel, £80 on accommodation and took out a mortgage for my Wetherspoons bill!

Miraculously managing to avoid the deluges which hit the rest of the country I enjoyed the most glorious, sun-drenched scenery of the Lake District & North Lancashire where I met some wonderful new rubbish recruits (Emma in Preston, Lee in Lancaster, John, Janice & Chundon in Ulverston, Annie in Barrow-in-Furness, Ross & Dave in Workington, Shelagh, Stef & Mike in Penrith), litter-picked the beaches of Morecambe and Biggar Bank and persuaded an amazing group of young people in Whitehaven to collect 6 bags of rubbish from the local children’s play park at Mirehouse, doing such a great job that the Whitehaven News published an article about their achievements.

As usual I talked a ‘load of rubbish’ to persuade and cajole anyone and everyone who entered into my line of vision (photographing many of them), twittered, tweeted, posted, shared and emailed all and sundry, broadcast the ‘message’ on BBC Radio Lancashire and Cumbria and, as ever, was encouraged and energised by all the wonderful people who follow, comment, share, retweet, ‘like’ & ‘love’ my meanderings. Without you, the 1 Piece Of Rubbish campaign would not be gaining the enormous momentum it has recently achieved..…and there’s more to come. Watch this space!

Anne Frank wrote in her diary…..

“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world”

Thank you, everyone, for continuing to improve our world. I love you all! 💚
